Things to know

  • Who it’s forSuitable for all ages and for non-swimmers: on the cay, you choose whether to swim by the shore, walk the trail or rest in the shade. Minors always go with an adult, and children ages 0 to 4 don’t pay (they take up a seat on the boat). Under Port Authority rules, and because landing is on the beach and the waves can be strong, pregnant women and people with severely reduced mobility or in a wheelchair can’t travel. If you get seasick easily on boats, take a motion sickness pill about 30 minutes before setting sail.
  • No pets or speakersTo protect the ecosystem and the cay’s peace and quiet, Johnny Cay Regional Park doesn’t allow pets or the use of speakers.
  • What to bringSwimsuit on, a towel and light clothes for the transfers. Sunscreen (ideally biodegradable), sunglasses and a cap or hat. Cash for the port tax ($5,000 COP), lunch and a coco loco. Water shoes (aqua shoes), if you are going to walk through the coral areas of the trail. A waterproof case for your phone; lockers can be rented on the island for an extra fee.
  • Paying the balanceYou pay the balance to the operator at the dock on the day of the tour: in cash, by bank transfer or by card, whichever you prefer.
  • Port taxSeparately from the balance, the port tax is paid at the dock: $5,000 COP per person, in cash, before departure. Children ages 0 to 4 don’t pay it. Johnny Cay admission is already included in your rate.
  • If the weather prevents sailingIf DIMAR (the Port Authority) closes operations that day because of the weather, or the cay is closed, we let you know right away on WhatsApp and reschedule your tour at no cost or refund 100% of your deposit.
