Exploria

Cookie policy

This is a courtesy translation. The original in Spanish is the only binding version and prevails in case of any difference: read it in Spanish.

Exploria uses its own cookies: necessary ones (your account session, your booking cart and your choice in the cookie notice) and preference ones (currency, language and region, and whether you want to see reviews translated), which are only saved when you choose them. It also uses your browser’s storage for your history on the site, which you can pause or delete, to quickly show your wishlists while you are logged in, and so that you don’t lose what you are choosing or writing. Only if you accept them in the cookie notice do we also use Meta’s advertising cookies (Facebook and Instagram), to measure our ads and show you Exploria ads; you can change your choice whenever you want in “Cookie preferences”. We do not use analytics tools. This policy complements the Privacy policy.

We use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, remember your preferences, improve your experience and, only if you accept it, measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram. Here we explain which ones we use, what for, and how you can manage them at any time.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device (computer, phone or tablet) when you visit it. They let the site remember information about your visit, such as your language or the actions you took, so that your next visit is more convenient and useful.

Alongside cookies, there are other similar technologies (such as the browser’s local storage or pixels) that do similar jobs. In this policy, unless stated otherwise, we refer to all of them as “cookies”.

2. Why do we use cookies?

We use cookies and local storage to:

  • Make the site work properly and securely.
  • Keep your session open when you log in with your email.
  • Remember your booking cart while you choose your experiences.
  • Instantly show your wishlists while you are logged in (the lists are saved in your account).
  • Remember the experiences you viewed and the dates you checked, to show you “Recently viewed”, help you pick up a booking and recommend similar plans to you.
  • Remember the currency, language and region you chose in “Languages and currency”, and whether you prefer to read reviews translated or as they were written.
  • Save what you are choosing or writing (the plan for a combo or the draft of your review) so that you don’t lose it, and not offer you another language again if you already declined it.
  • Only if you accept it in the cookie notice: measure which Exploria ads on Facebook and Instagram lead to visits, WhatsApp inquiries and bookings, and show you Exploria ads on those networks (with Meta; see sections 3 and 5). We do not use analytics tools.

3. Types of cookies we use

The site uses its own cookies — NECESSARY ones and ones for your PREFERENCES, which are only saved when you choose something — and, only if you accept them in the cookie notice, Meta’s ADVERTISING cookies:

  • Session (necessary, always active): “exploria_sesion” keeps your session open after you log in with your email and the access code. It is a random code: it does not contain your name or your email, our server only stores an encrypted version of it and no browser script can read it. Duration: 30 days, or until you log out.
  • Cart (necessary, always active): “exploria_carrito” identifies your booking cart while you browse without logging in, so that you don’t lose the experiences you added; when you log in, the cart moves to your account. It is a random code that does not identify you. Duration: 60 days.
  • Your cookie choice (necessary): “exploria-cookies” remembers whether you accepted or rejected advertising cookies in the cookie notice, to respect your choice and not ask you again. Duration: 1 year; after that, we ask you again.
  • Currency (preference, only if you choose it): “exploria-moneda” remembers the currency you want to see prices in (Colombian pesos, US dollars or Brazilian reais) when you choose it in “Languages and currency”. Without it, you see the currency of the page’s language. You are always charged in Colombian pesos. Duration: 1 year.
  • Language and region (preference, only if you choose them): “exploria-region” remembers the language and region you chose in “Languages and currency” or when you accepted the notice that offers you the page in your language (for example, “English (US)”), to show you that choice and not offer you another language again. Duration: 1 year.
  • Translation (preference, only if you turn it off): “exploria-traduccion” remembers that you prefer to read reviews and comments as they were written, without translation, when you turn off “Translation” in “Languages and currency”. It is deleted when you turn it back on. Duration: 1 year.
  • Analytics (NOT active): we do not use tools that measure the use of the site (such as Google Analytics). If we ever enable them, we will update this policy beforehand, and they will only load with your authorization.
  • Advertising (Meta’s, only if you accept them): the Meta Pixel stores on exploriia.com “_fbp”, a random code that lets Meta recognize your browser, and “_fbc”, the identifier of the Facebook or Instagram ad you came from, if you came from one. They are used to measure our ads and show you Exploria ads. Duration: 90 days. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram in that browser, Meta may also use its own cookies (for example, “fr”), according to its policy. What is sent to Meta, and how, is explained in section 5.

Necessary cookies are essential to provide the service: without them you could not log in or book. Preference cookies are only saved when you make that choice, and they serve only to respect it. Advertising cookies only load if you accept them: if you reject them or don’t choose, nothing from Meta loads and the site works exactly the same.

4. Similar technologies: what we store in your browser

In addition to cookies, we use your browser’s local storage (localStorage), which is kept until you delete it. This is exactly what we store:

  • “exploria:actividad”: the experiences you have in your wishlists (only their identifier, as a signal of interest to recommend plans to you); the last experiences you opened (up to 60) and the ones you removed from “Recently viewed”; the date and the number of people you chose in an experience’s calendar; signals of interest from the last 90 days, such as which destination you filtered by, whether you read an experience’s page, whether you checked dates or whether you added it to the cart; and, for the last 60 experiences you opened, how long you spent on each one’s page (only while the page is visible and you are using it: if you leave it open without moving, the clock stops after 30 seconds), how far you scrolled through it, how many times you came back and whether you opened its photos, its video, its itinerary or its map, or shared it. For each experience, we only store its identifier.
  • “exploria:listas” (only while you are logged in): a copy of your wishlists (their names, what you saved, your notes, and the date and number of people for each trip), so that the hearts appear filled in as soon as the page loads. The version that counts is the one in your account.
  • “exploria:lista-reciente” (only while you are logged in): the last list you saved to and when, so that the next thing you save in the following hours goes there without asking you.
  • “exploria:resena:…” (only while you write a review): the draft of your review (the step you are on, the stars, the rating for each aspect, your text and your city; if you rate at exploriia.com/en/calificar, the experience and the month you chose instead of the city: your name, your city and your mobile number are not saved in the browser), so that you don’t lose it if you close the page before publishing it. It is deleted when you publish or send it.
  • “exploria:oferta-idioma”: the languages you declined in the notice that offers you the page in another language, so that we don’t offer them to you again.

We also use your browser’s session storage (sessionStorage), which is deleted automatically when you close the tab:

  • “exploria:oferta-idioma-vista”: that you already saw that notice during this visit, so that it doesn’t appear again on every page.
  • “exploria:combo:…”: the plan, days, times and number of people you chose in a combo, so that “Change” in “Confirm and pay” takes you back to the experience page with your choice.

If you are not logged in, your history (“exploria:actividad”) stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. If you log in, it is also saved in your account so that you can see it on your other devices, and when you log out it is deleted from that device, along with the copy of your lists (useful on shared computers). Nothing else ever leaves your browser, except your review when you decide to publish it.

We do not store your name, your email or your contact details in your browser.

5. Our own and third-party cookies

The necessary and preference cookies on this site are our own: they are managed directly by Exploria.

A third party is involved only if you accept advertising cookies: Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram). In that case, the Meta Pixel, from your browser, and our server, through Meta’s Conversions API, notify Meta of certain actions on the site: that you opened a page, viewed an experience, started a booking in “Confirm and pay”, paid the deposit (with its amount in Colombian pesos) and tapped a link to message us on WhatsApp. Each notification includes the page address, Meta’s cookies, your IP address and your browser type and, if you are logged in or have paid a deposit, your email, your mobile number and your name, hashed with an irreversible function (SHA-256) before they leave our server: Meta does not receive them in plain text. Each action is counted only once, even if it arrives through both channels. Meta uses this information to measure the results of our ads, show you Exploria ads on Facebook and Instagram and find people with similar interests, as a controller for its own purposes and in accordance with its data policy (facebook.com/privacy/policy). In your Facebook or Instagram account settings (“Ad preferences” and “Your activity off Meta technologies”), you can see and limit that use.

The payment gateway (Wompi, by Bancolombia) is only used when you decide to pay the deposit online, and its cookies are strictly necessary to complete and secure that transaction. If we add other analytics or advertising tools in the future, we will update this list BEFORE enabling them. Each third party processes information under its own policies; the processing of your personal data by Exploria is governed by our Privacy policy.

The use of cookies falls under Law 1581 of 2012 and Decree 1377 of 2013 on personal data protection. Necessary cookies do not require consent, because they are essential to provide the service you request, and preference cookies are only saved when you make that choice. Meta’s advertising cookies only load with your prior, express and informed authorization: you give it with “Accept” in the cookie notice that appears on your first visit, and “Reject” is just as easy. By accepting them, you also authorize sending Meta the information described in section 5, which may be processed outside Colombia (Meta is in the United States). You can change your choice whenever you want in “Cookie preferences”, at the bottom of any page, or in Your account › Privacy and recommendations: from that moment on, we stop sending information to Meta. Your choice is saved for one year; after that, we ask you again.

7. How to manage or disable cookies

You can accept, block or delete cookies from your browser settings. Here are the official guides:

Keep in mind that if you disable necessary cookies, you won’t be able to log in or book online (you can always book via WhatsApp with an advisor).

If you delete the preference cookies, the site goes back to showing you the currency of the page’s language and translated reviews. You can change those preferences whenever you want in “Languages and currency”.

You can also accept or reject Meta’s advertising cookies at any time in “Cookie preferences”, at the bottom of any page, without changing your browser settings.

8. Your browsing preferences

So that you can quickly find what you liked, we remember what you saved in your wishlists and what you viewed (the details are in section 4). With that, the home page shows you “Pick up where you left off” (the last plan you viewed), “For you” (plans you haven’t seen yet) and “Recently viewed”, and Explore shows first what you are most likely to enjoy. To get it right, we mainly take into account how long you spent reading each experience and what you looked at in it. Everything is calculated in your own browser.

You’re in control: in Wishlists › Recently viewed you can remove experiences one by one (with “Edit”) and, right there at the bottom or in Your account › Privacy and recommendations, clear your entire history or pause it (pausing it clears what was saved and we stop recording what you view). You can also clear it by deleting your browsing data.

These preferences don’t change the prices or availability you see, don’t affect your booking, are not sold and are not shared with third parties: they are just a convenience to show you the site the way you prefer.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use or in the regulations. The current version will always be the one published on this page, with the date of its last update at the top.
